Residents across Cannock and the wider county will see a 3.99% increase in their council tax bills from April after Staffordshire County Council passed its 2026/27 budget this morning. This marks the first budget under the new Reform UK administration. The rise will see Band D properties pay an additional £64.71 annually, bringing the total county portion of the bill to £1,686.42. Acting Council Leader Martin Murray defended the move, stating it remains below the 4.99% maximum allowed by the government and is necessary to protect frontline services in children’s care and highways. The budget includes an additional £15m investment into road repairs across the county. However, Conservative opposition leaders criticized the move, claiming it breaks election pledges to lower taxes.
