Staffordshire Police have launched a major investigation this Sunday morning following a violent incident on a coach traveling along the M6 Toll near Cannock. Officers were called to the scene at approximately 8:15 am to reports that a passenger had been stabbed while the vehicle was in motion on the southbound carriageway between Junction T8 and Junction T7.
The victim, a man whose age has not yet been released, suffered a stab wound to the shoulder. Emergency services, including paramedics, rushed to the motorway to provide immediate medical attention. The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital; fortunately, medical staff have confirmed that his condition is currently stable and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 41-year-old man from the Northumberland area was apprehended at the scene by responding officers. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody for questioning. The motive behind the attack is currently unknown, and police are working to determine the relationship, if any, between the two individuals.
The M6 Toll, a vital artery for the district, was forced into a total closure southbound for a short period this morning while forensic teams secured the coach and gathered evidence. This led to brief traffic delays around the Churchbridge interchange and the A5, though the motorway has since been fully re-opened to all traffic.
Local residents and travelers have expressed shock at the brazen nature of the attack, occurring on public transport during a quiet Sunday morning. Staffordshire Police are expected to remain at the scene for several hours as they continue their enquiries. They are appealing to anyone who may have been on the coach or who has dashcam footage from that section of the M6 Toll between 8:00 am and 8:30 am to come forward.
