POLICE ALERT: Armed Response at Cannock Park

Staffordshire Police have issued a serious warning following an incident at Cannock Park this past Saturday (14th Feb).

Armed officers were deployed to Stafford Road after reports of a man with a handgun. It turned out to be a BB gun, but the situation was treated as a real threat until officers could confirm it. A 14-year-old boy was also detained in the same area for carrying a Desert Eagle replica toy.

The Message from Chief Inspector Lee Walker is clear: “While you know it’s a toy, the public and the police don’t.”

Why this matters:

  • Dangerous Situations: Carrying these in public can lead to a face-to-face encounter with armed police.
  • Wasted Resources: These calls pull emergency teams away from other incidents.
  • Public Fear: It causes unnecessary panic in our parks and schools.

Parents, please talk to your kids. A toy gun looks like a real threat from a distance. Let’s keep Cannock Park a safe place for everyone.
